Celebrating Diversity

Moving Forward organises a football tournament for Service Users to celebrate diversity.

In partnership with the Sunlight Centre, KCHT Moving Forward organised a football tournament in response to interest shown amongst some of our young asylum seeking service users.

Building on the desire to engage in a positive activity we decided to work with the Sunlight Centre so that this would help breakdown barriers between local young people and the young asylum seekers.

This led to Moving Forward’s involvement in organising a football tournament last June as part of the Celebrating Diversity Festival. Several teams from the community took part in this tournament including the police, local housing department, social services, local youth teams as well as our own team, "Four Corners".

A thoroughly enjoyable day ensued which gave the opportunity for people to get to know each other while relaxing in the sunshine between games.

The day truly celebrated diversity with players from Afghanistan, Iraq, Zimbabwe, Albania, Iran as well as local Sunlight Centre Team, Police, Fire Brigade and even Margate FC.

Another event, hopefully to take place in Medway, is in the pipeline.
