KCHT Supported Living in Bexley

On 20 August 2007 KCHT, in partnership with Bexley Council, launched its Supported Living Service in Bexley.

We would like to welcome to KCHT our colleagues working in our new KCHT Supported Living service. This is a new service to KCHT delivering support services to 500 older people living in 16 Bexley sheltered housing schemes. We are delivering the services in partnership with our colleagues in Bexley Council, who commission the service, and London & Quadrant Housing Trust, who manage the housing.

Within the supported sheltered housing schemes, the high quality personal support we provide enables people to have choices and live as independently as possible within the community. This is different to our other older people services because we are not providing personal care but providing support tailored to meet the needs of each person.

Each scheme is overseen by a Support Officer who has 30 to 40 residents living in the sheltered housing. The type of support required will be assessed and agreed with each resident and described on a written support plan. This support may include help with accessing benefits and other health and social services, acting as an advocate to resolve problems with other agencies, and daily calls to residents to ensure that everyone is well.

We are pleased and privileged to be a partner with our colleagues in the Bexley Council and London and Quadrant Housing Trust in delivering this important service.
